Toyota Celica tuning

The Toyota Celica is one of the most popular series manufactured by the Japanese company. Toyota released the Celica in two trims worldwide: the GT with a 140HP engine with VVT1-I and the GTS with a stated 180HP or 192 HP from 1.8L with VVTl-I. The Celica’s production spanned for over thirty years, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that there aren't more tuning companies that used the Celica as the raw material for their creations.

Full tuning packages for Toyota Celica are very hard to find, but there are several body kits that the user can install themselves, as well as a plethora of do-it-yourself guides to simple modifications to the Celica. There's an abundance or custom parts, especially for 5th and 6th generation Celicas. Many owners want a stronger engine, so engine swaps are particularly popular. Suspensions are also very often modified for more control over the driving. One can find plenty of Nitros kits, turbo kits and other complex mods available. The Celica’s body is quite sleek, but many tuners find that they can reap some extra aerodynamic benefits from adding on a body kit.

One of the most popular tuning packages seems to be the ones released by Thor Racing. The British company offers a fully programmable ECU that can be fitted and mapped to the car’s injections. The advantage of these packages is that the ECU has a 2.5bar MAP sensor built in, the ECU can be reprogrammed before changing turbos, and the fuel and ignitions is continuously trimmed O2 and knock sensors.
